A lot of changes these days. We are relocating to Denver, Colorado the beginning of July and just really excited about it. I will write more later, about leaving Santa Fe and how we decided on Denver (or it decided on us), but just want everyone to be aware. It all came about rather unexpectedly and I’m really looking forward to it. Right now packing boxes and doing all the things that go along with making a move. Each of the animals is excited (well, some act more so than others) and looking forward to our new locale. The sock maven is holding off packing her socks until the last moment, but she, too, is excited. A lot more to come once we are settled in. Plus news on a number of other fronts. I’ll be updating the site with the new number as soon as we get there, but will also have a forwarding message on the old number. Email address and all else will be the same. And, I do have availability before the move, so, don’t hesitate to contact me if you and your companions need a session. And we won’t be down for long at the move either. The new house has a wonderful little room with lots of windows and light that I’ll be doing sessions out of. Wonderful energy. It’s a great space and I’m looking forward to the positive influence of that energy on the work we do! So, more to come in a few weeks . . .
Best Friends L.A. & NYC seek homes for companion animals.
If your aren’t on Facebook, haven’t been lately, or just haven’t noticed, Best Friends Animal Society now has chapters in both Los Angeles and New York City (just click on Best friends to get to their main site and the city names to go to the chapter sites). Truly a great organization, Best Friends is the animal sanctuary in Utah (featured in the, now sadly missed, cable series “Dogtown”) that does so much to rehabilitate those who are considered beyond rehabilitation and have proved over and over again that every companion animal deserves a forever home, even if it’s with them. Their L.A. and NYC chapters are just blazing in how much they are doing to help place homeless companion animals.
Two animals needing rescue in L.A. right now are Chiquita, who is 14 years old (my clients know that cats can live well into their 20s and that a 14 year old cat can still fill your life for a good number of years as well as really having come into their own- no, ageism for this girl – help Chiquita find her true home) and a 2 year old male blue point lynx (behind what looks like shelter stress, he is radiating amazing energy and could make an amazing companion, given the opportunity).

Check them out and if you don’t have room to add to the family make a donation. They do amazing work!
Sock Diaries – part trois
One of the joys of working from home, by phone, is having the opportunity to wear just about anything you want to work. I actually enjoying playing with wearing colors and combinations of things I wouldn’t be caught in outside the privy of my own home. Hey, when you work alone and at home, you have to find ways to entertain yourself.
Well, I guess Kaya is more than just the sock maven, she may also be working towards fashion consulting. The other day I laid out my attire for a work at home day on the bed, a regular part of my routine, before heading for the shower. Amongst my choices for the day was a pair of lounging pants in a dark and light grey heather stripe. Exciting stuff, huh.
At some point during the shower I realized I had company as Kaya had managed to make her way past the curtain to sit on the edge of the tub. At our old house the bathroom had an open shower (no curtain, door, ledge, etc.) and Kaya would frequently join the showering activities of the day. It’s either the fact that everyone swears she has bengal in her or that her last two lifetimes were that of dogs.
So, upon completing my after shower routine, I walked into the bedroom to find Kaya lying by my days pick of clothing, a light and dark gray striped sock sitting on the heather striped pants. A perfect match. Although only one . . . She purred and rolled and rubbed on the pants and matching sock and then exited. Never got the mate though. Still, to have picked that match amongst the many socks she has is quite something. Not another one of her collection would have come close. It seems the more I write about this the more activity around her socks there is.
Well, as long as Kaya keeps the sock diaries going, I will keep passing them along to you all. What I do find interesting is that Kaya can be a very talkative kitty and yet each of these events has transpired without a word telepathed. Although, it certainly is a testament to her reading my thoughts and words. There hasn’t been any conversation about any of this from anyone in the family either. Would appear, though, that she is vying for that regular feature. If they all decide they want one, it could be trouble. In the meantime, I am blessed to fulfill this for her and wouldn’t keep her from having the opportunity whatever the situation . . .
Sock Diaries – part deux
I believe Kaya is vying for a regular feature. My office is very cold in the mornings and so, thick terri sock warmers are a must during my first session. As I’ve mentioned before, these are Kaya’s favorite (great for carrying, needing on, etc.). I had been hiding a pair, quite well, from her for several days. The other morning, they were gone. So, I went searching out her hiding spots (the few I have been able to discover anyway). Only found two (not the ones I had been wearing, nor a matching pair), a grey strip and a blue polka dot. I put them on and went into the office to prep for my 1st session. Well, the polka dot, seemed to be a favorite as she kept trying to pull it off my foot while I prepped, even crawling under my leg to get to the polka dotted foot tucked beneath and grabbing the end in her mouth and pulling. I chastised her and explained that she had more than enough socks and I was lucky to find these. The phone rang and I began the session with my client. During the coarse of that hour, out of the corner of my eye, I did noticed her coming in and out of the office with what I thought was the same sock. As I was deeply ensconced in the session, I ignored her, not realizing what was actually going on. I believe she had set about a trade negotiation and my ignoring her, set her determination to up the ante and find just the right sock to initiate said trade and return the blue polka dot to one of her hidden lairs. For, upon concluding my call, there were at least one of each pair she has had squired away all neatly lined in a row at the foot of my side table with Kaya sitting pensively beside them awaiting my choice and return of her precious blue polka dot. I chose the mate to the striped one I was wearing and have not seen the blue polka dot since. She is quite something . . .
The Sock Diaries of Kaya Randel – Part un
I refer to Kaya as the sock maven. She collects my socks and they become hers. My favorite terri warmers from Nordstrom are also her favorites. I believe at this juncture, she has more of my socks than I do. She leaves one or two out to tease me, the rest are squired away in places I have yet to be able to discover. So, I had collected the few she leaves out for me to see and washed them with the laundry and they were still in the basket waiting to be folded. So, I thought, as I had placed them low (thinking they would be too hard to get to and I might just get them in a drawer for my own use) in the rather tall basket I use for doing laundry that they would be safe and out of reach. I came into the bathroom to find one she had managed to get out lying in the path between my office and bedroom. I mentioned quite casually without expectation that I would love the matching one to put on so I could warm my feet while on the phone with a client. Mid session during a bathroom break, there was the matching sock waiting for me. I was delighted that she had done this and made a big deal about it and thanked her profusely and wore the socks through the session. Every time I’ve walked into or through (the bathroom is between my office and bedroom) there today there’s been another sock there waiting for me. I believe she now thinks this is our new game.
Happy Holidays and New Year
Hanukkah and Bodhi Day (a particularly special holiday in our house, at least Bodhi thinks so – haven’t told him yet, it’s not about him) have passed and Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day and the New Year quickly approach. The holiday season is in full swing.
I just want to take a moment to extend wishes and gratitude for all the blessings I have received from all of you this year! Thank you for your support, patronage and your trust. I am always honored to be of service. Always . . .
So many folks close their businesses for a full two weeks around Christmas and New Years these days. I don’t remember it being that way to the extent that I’ve seen it the last few years. It’s not a path I choose and actually, I find the holidays can be a rather busy time of year for me. I love it. Engaging with people and being of assistance at this time of year is a very gratifying way to spend the holidays. And, I find it blesses the new year in it’s own lovely way as well. I find being in this place of assistance at the holidays brings a sense of comfort and wonderfully positive expectation for the year ahead. Yes, I know I always ward against expectations, but this is different in that it sets a beautiful tone for the coming year.
I will be closed a few days over the holidays, on Xmas eve (@2pmMST) and day as well as New Year’s eve (@2pmMST) and day. Otherwise I am working and have availability. I also find the holiday can be a great time to schedule something. Most clients during the holidays have some time off and are in a space to tackle things they aren’t able to at other times. Even in the midst of craziness that the holidays can create if we allow them to, there seems to be a space where doing work with your animals or even yourself to set your own tone for the new year is a welcome thing during this season of hope and joy.
I’m also excited about the new year. I had hoped to have my amazon storefront up in time for the holidays but things have gotten in the way of that and it may end up being a blessing as the delay may be leading to a better option and therefore more options for you all. Stay tuned I hope to have news if not a storefront up by the new year or just after. I am also revisiting the idea of teleseminars and webclasses and newletters and a variety of other things for the coming year. So, stay tuned for more on that. Emerson’s passing was unexpected (at least the timing of it was-in hindsight, I see it’s perfection) and extremely difficult and it has kept me away from blogging. I’ve had a ton of ideas float through my consciousness over the last number of months and hope to blog a lot more in 2011.
Anyway, from me and mine (Henry, Kismet, Kaya, Bodhi and Z) to you and yours, have a marvelous season filled with all bright and wondrous blessings!
finally a new title for the blog

Okay, trumpets . . . After months of just not dealing with it, I figured it was time and necessary. So, the new title for my blog will be The Alternative Paw as what I do and address is alternative in the best of ways. I’m configuring everything so those of you subscribed should, hopefully just be redirected. I hope so anyway. I’m not that good at all the technical stuff. Do, let me know if that doesn’t happen! Thanks!

I have been putting off this post. I wanted to let all of you know (especially those of you who do not use Facebook-yes, most of you), that Emerson passed on September 23rd. I will be writing a much longer post about how amazing he was (is) and his passing sometime soon. Thought I would have done so by now, but I’m not there yet.
Many of you know what an amazing shaman he was in his own right and how much he helped during sessions. He has passed the baton to Kaya and Kismet who, although different in style (from him as well as one another), are doing an amazing job in their own wonderful way.
For those of you who may be wondering, he did pass on his own terms and it was truly one of the easiest and gentlest passings I’ve experienced. His huge presence has left a huge hole and we are all finding our way to our new way of being without him here physically.
Things slowed a bit to allow me to deal, but boy I’m really ready to work and so, in statement to you all and the universe and to honor him and how diligent he always was in our work together, I am back full time and ready to be of assistance to you all and anyone new you might wish to send our way. You all blessed him these many years and you always bless me.
Namaste’
